If you are a j'ouvert old-timer then
these pictures will bring back the
sounds, the smells and the images of
that unforgettable morning every year.  
How can one describe the stillness, the
darkness, the anticipation of the first
moments.
But soon enough the mud appears -
warm, thick, heavy - and the stranger
next to you begins to ladle and spread
the dense handfuls onto your back,
your tummy, your thighs.  And in the
background you can hear the DJ begin
to warm up and the iron 'tock tock tock'
of the rhythm section.
The band sets off.
Initially it is calm, but as the
grogginess lifts another j'ouvert
appears.  No longer the slow,
still, subdued mood of before.  
Now the frenzy unfolds ...
